    At-Home Workouts For Women:  10 Simple Ways to Stay Active at Home

    Today I want to talk about 10 simple ways to stay active at home. This post is specifically for busy women, and stay at home moms that don’t have the time or desire to go to the gym. My goal is to show you that being a busy mom does not have to stop you from being active. I still manage to stay active. It is not only doable, it is also fun. Now I’m going to tell you the 10 simple ways I stay active effortlessly at home, with my three boys. You are going to love it! You may even be surprised!

    Bust a Move

    The first simple way I stay active at home is dancing! That’s right! You read it right! Dancing is a great way to get up, get moving, and have lots of fun! What makes dancing so simple is that you don’t have to force yourself to do it. Once your favorite song is playing, what happens next is completely voluntary. I can also include my three boys in the action. They love to see me dance and be goofy. I love to dance with them, be goofy, and make them laugh. It all goes hand in hand. Let’s not forget, the calories that are being burned in the process. 30 minutes of fun for 200 calories sounds good to me!

    Tidy Up for Fun

    The next way that I stay active at home is by cleaning the house. You heard it right ladies. I enjoy cleaning the house because I make it fun! The one thing I do is turn on some active, and fun music. It motivates me to get up and get moving. I even do a little dance in between because I have a home for my family and I get to clean it. I have to be thankful for that. My favorite artist to listen to while I’m cleaning is Michael Jackson. His music is fun, and energetic. Whatever music gets you up and moving, is the music you should choose when cleaning the house. Before you know it, the house will be spotless.

    Hang Out

    The third way that I stay active at home is by doing laundry. I pick one day out of the week to do all of our laundry. I wash one load, then I take it outside and hang it to dry. After that, I wash another load, and do the exact same thing. Normally, by the time I get to the third load of clothes, the first load is dry. Once the first load is dry, I bring it in and put them away. Doing laundry keeps me active,as I get to walk outside. The kids also get a chance to play outside.

    Walk the Dog

    The fourth way that I stay active at home is by walking the dog. Our dog is part of our family. I love that caring for our dog gives the kids a sense of responsibility. They get to feed him, and bathe him. They get to make sure he is ok, the same way that I make sure they are ok. We walk our dog for about an hour a day. We get to sight see as we walk through our neighborhood. We also get to mingle with our neighbors and their dogs. The walks are always fun. It’s another family experience. We walk in different directions daily.

    Cookout for the Family

    Moving on the fifth way that I stay active at home. I love to cook. Cooking is a big part of my daily life. I enjoy creating new recipes for my family to enjoy. My favorite way to cook is grilling. Preparing food gets me up and moving. Our grill is on our front porch. Normally, I’ll have meat grilling on the grill outside, and the side dishes cooking on the stove. I’m back and forth from the grill to the stove. I usually get a lot of steps in, and break a sweat while cooking. I even get the kids to help with preparation sometimes.

    Game On!

    The next way I stay active at home is by playing the Nintendo Wii with the kids. We love the dance and sports games. It gets really competitive. It’s always fun. The Michael Jackson Experience is a great game to play to burn some extra calories. The Just Dance series is great as well. It has a Just Sweat game mode that allows you to choose how long you want to play, as well as what songs you want to dance to. It counts burned calories as you play. I learned how to bowl playing the Nintendo Wii. Everyone wants to be on my team when we actually go to the bowling alley. I credit all my skills and experience in bowling to the wonderful Nintendo Wii.

    Elliptical With the TV

    The seventh way I stay active at home is cardio exercise. I have an elliptical in our living room. If I have a lazy day, or a day full of errands, I don’t always get the time to do any of the other activities. My personal goal is to have at least an hour of movement a day. So, after a long day of errands, I jump on that elliptical while the kids are watching their favorite show and get some cardiovascular activity in. The time goes by relatively fast because I love cartoons just as much as they do.

    Resist For Strength

    Number eight on my list of ways to stay active at home is strength training. I love strength training. It is challenging and it helps my body stay strong and toned. Cellulite is not my friend ladies. I work to conquer the enemy! I have a resistance band that allows me to workout in any room of the house. Our family travels once a month, and I get to take the band with me. It has handles at each end. I stand on it for resistance. It’s great for compound exercises, like squats into shoulder presses. The band is very cheap. It can be purchased at any store. I got mine online for $15.00.

    Skate On!

    The next way I stay active at home is rollerblading. Rollerblading with the kids is a great pastime. We rollerblade around the neighborhood. This is fun for me. It also burns just as many calories as running. I do not like to run! I’ve read that it can be a strength building activity as well. I’m not sure if you know how to rollerblade, but learning is fun. Making it a family activity, makes even more fun. Give it a try!

    Learn a New Dance Move With Zumba

    Finally, the tenth way I stay active at home is Zumba. I had a friend who went from muffin top to hour glass by only doing Zumba. I couldn’t get out and go to the classes at the gym because of my schedule and the kids. I didn’t want to purchase any tapes either, not knowing if I would stick to it. I got on YouTube, and found some videos that featured some of my favorite songs. They are fun as well. They also teach me new dance moves!

    Set Your Mind To It!

    These are the 10 ways I stay active at home. I always enjoy activities that allow me to have new and fun experiences with my family. Family first! Some of these activities are normal duties that we all do. However, if you change your mind, that it will be a fun, and a way to stay active, you will enjoy it. You won’t dread it.
